2014 Great American Clean Up Highlights

A variety of community beautification projects that have enhanced the City  were recently completed thanks to the help of over 400 volunteers who attended the 26th Annual Great American Clean Up. This year the event was all about “partnerships” and our partners made it possible for us to take on some in exciting new projects.

You can watch GTV6's coverage of the event in their latest episode of On the Move.

Here are a few highlights of the event day projects:

Beyond the Box- Utility Box Mural Project

For the first time, volunteers had the opportunity to paint murals on utility boxes, thanks to the Glendale Arts & Culture Commission who created the Beyond the Box Mural Project to beautify the City’s Downtown area.

Daily High School’s 2nd Chance to Grow Garden
Over 60 volunteers including Daily High students, Leadership Glendale's Class of 2014 and the Glendale Kiwanis Club built 15 raised bed garden for the Daily High School Environmental Futures Academy. Food grown by the students will be donated to local food pantries.

Graffiti Removal & Weed Abatement Projects
Various blighted areas received mini makeovers including a fresh coat of paint to cover over graffiti and the removal of overgrown vegetation, weeds, trash and illegally dumped items. Students from the Glendale Police Department S.T.A.R. (Students Training As Role-models) Program cleaned and painted a pedestrian bridge over the 134 Fwy.
