On Saturday, March 19, 2016, join us in a celebration of Johann Sebastian Bach’s 331st birthday with a free concert at the Historic Glendale Transportation Center.

The Cello Ensemble from the Pasadena Conservatory of Music, led by Rebecca Merblum, String Department Chair is joining musicians from around the world for Bach in the Subways Day.

The concert will take place in Glendale's Historic train depot, located at 400 W. Cerritos Avenue, Glendale. 

 

Bach in the Subways is an international movement with events in subways, train stations, and other public spaces in 129 cities in 39 countries. Performances sow the seeds for future generations of classical music lovers by generating public interest and excitement for the art form. The music is given freely as a gift, and as an invitation to further explore classical music.

Angels Fly into the Glendale Transportation Center

The Glendale Wings exhibit, part of the Art from the Ashes (AFTA) Production "YOU ARE HERE" Art Series, has arrived at the Glendale Transportation Center (GTC) and will be on display until December 15, 2015. The wings will conclude their Glendale tour at the GTC after making stops at the Central Library, Cruise Night, Brand Library + Art Center and the Glendale Narrows.

YOU ARE HERE, is a temporary public art series created for the City of Glendale featuring creations by local artists and collectives. The exhibits are designed to engage residents and visitors, inviting them to become a part of the art. Glendale Wings was created by LA based artist Colette Miller "to remind people that we can be the angels of this earth." She hopes her wings will be a symbol of peace wherever they are exhibited.

APA Recognizes Glendale’s Community Development Department

The Los Angeles Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA) recognized the City of Glendale and the Community Development Department (CDD) with several awards at their annual Awards Gala on June 12, 2012 at the Historic Los Angeles Theater in Downtown Los Angeles. These awards set the City of Glendale apart from other municipalities for its overall excellence and innovative approach to community development.

Distinguished Leadership Award  – [Public] Agency for 2014

Recognizes CDD as a leader in its field. The main distinguishing factor is the Department’s multiple divisions’ ability to continue to perform at an outstanding level, with internal consistency and collaboration between the divisions, in the face of the recession, loss of Redevelopment funding, major staff cuts and increasing workload.

South Brand Study Results

The South Brand Boulevard Preferential Parking Study is part of a two and a half year effort to resolve on-street parking issues in the South Brand Boulevard neighborhood. This neighborhood is approximately bound by the south side of Colorado Street, the west side of Glendale Avenue, the north side of San Fernando Road and the east side of Central Avenue.

The primary goal of this effort was to create a comprehensive set of parking solutions for the neighborhood and effectively respond to increasing concerns from area residents regarding the availability of on-street parking. In community meetings there were contrasting opinions and competing interests from local residents and businesses on how to institute a preferential parking program for the South Brand Boulevard area. However, local residents and businesses agreed that the existing guest parking permit program needs to be modified to limit abuse, and both groups agreed that more enforcement is needed to maintain the overall effectiveness of the Preferential Parking Program. No major objections were raised by residents or businesses in regards to district-based preferential parking. 

The study analyzed parking conditions in the neighborhood, surveyed local businesses on employee parking habits and solicited public input at over two dozen community meetings.
